Careers Adviser
-
Aug 2009 - Present
I currently work in further education (post 16). I was employed initially as a Learning Resources Mentor working in a brand new state of the art learning resource centre known as the FYi. My job role included working in the College’s Learning Resources Centres and Library as part of a team, providing guidance and support in finding the best sources of information, and to develop students’ independent learning and research skills.Since this, I have continued my personal development in to Career, Information Advice and Guidance and I am a now a level 6 trained careers adviser. I initiated a new project called 'FYi Futures', to highlight and promote Careers, information advice and guidance to students. I pitched the idea to Senior Management and piloted the scheme from September 2011- to date which has been a great success. Through the college I passed and completed a Diploma in Career Education and a level 6 diploma in Career Guidance and development. My job entails meeting students for 1 to 1 appointments, giving Information, Advice and Guidance regarding all options for when students leave college, whilst creating SMART targets and Action Plans for them to adhere to. I also arrange and help organise career events, such as employability talks and workshops to encourage student engagement and raise aspirations. I have also been a Personal Tutor (student coach) for the college, for 3 years, which entailed leading a class of students and monitoring their attendance and effort throughout their time at college. This requires effective rapport with students and liaising with parents. I also help with UCAS applications and offer general help and advice regarding any college welfare issues.

Senior Sales Advisor
-
Jun 2008 - Dec 2009
I worked on the Home Department as a Sales Advisor at the beginning. I gradually gained essential work skills that allowed me to progress in 9 months to a Senior Sales Advisor. I developed my leadership skills, managing a team of individuals, to deliver excellent customer service. I often used my own initiative and had to work under pressure on a daily basis. I conducted Till training- because of my thorough knowledge of the system, together with Induction training for new employees. I really enjoyed my time at the company. I was nominated in April 2009 for Employee of the Month and won it for my "commitment to the home department and the support she gives all her colleagues".
