    • Union of Students Advisor
      • Aug 2019 - Aug 2020

As Union Advisor I worked with the students on a range of different issues: Academic appeals, Complaints, Disciplinarians, Housing and finance issues, Wellbeing issues, Sexual Health, EEC's and extensions. It was important to advocate on behalf of the student and represent them if required at meetings. It was also crucial to encourage the student to take control of their issues and empower them to feel they were capable of representing themselves. I attended many meetings with University Staff and build a great rapport with both the students I worked with as well as Staff across the University. I was involved in many developmental opportunities while in this role also, including: Look After Your Mate training, this meant that I was trained in delivering this training to students across the University. I also went on Advice UK training which taught crucial skills in providing advice. I also went to a First Steps Eating Disorders Conference, which was great at furthering my knowledge of Eating Disorders and how they affect students. I also went on a Tender Domestic Violence training session, this was extremely insightful and allowed me to consider more implications of this on our students. I was also able to start BSL training which I am still constantly developing my skills on. I was able to partake in a lot of online training sessions including: Suicide Prevention, GDPR, Safeguarding etc. I was trained on sexual health which meant that I could distribute condoms and be a point of contact for any concerns. I was able to work on a Mental Health Champion committee, in which we discussed mental health in the workplace and how we could better this. We developed a plan and this was delivered as part of the time to change campaign. With this I created and distributed a survey to all staff to gain thoughts and ideas about workplace mental health. Once completed I also created a mental health in the workplace training session
