A move due to military orders brought me to a new state, district, and building. I started a position teaching both 7th and 8th-grade classes science. • I gained experience juggling multiple preps of classroom material; building curriculum and lessons for two grade levels. I independently worked to find materials for activities and labs to create engaging lessons. • I worked hard with learners below grade level and those with IEPs without additional support. I worked at continuously improving classroom management skills that didn’t rely on building-wide discipline procedures. This included building relationships with students to gain trust. I monitored students throughout the entire school day. I diligently enforced COVID safety measures while simultaneously creating a classroom culture where students felt safe, comfortable, heard, seen, respected, and cared for. • I used Canvas LMS in order to post classroom materials and communication for students and their families to stay aware and organized, especially helping with absences due to COVID. • I graded student work based on a unique building-wide grading system. I administered district-wide standardized tests for every learning target and provided test results to supervisors. Show less

• Reconstructed curriculum to create a 100% virtual classroom during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Taught remotely using Zoom, Google Classroom, and a plethora of other online tools. Worked to balance synchronous and asynchronous material for online learners while trying to still stay motivating and engaging. • Welcomed students back to in-person learning. As an 8-12 building, my students had never stepped foot inside before. Established classroom and building rules and culture ¾ the way through the school year while also enforcing COVID-19 safety precautions while teaching online and in-person simultaneously. • Collaborated with the other 8th-grade science teacher to align curriculum, instruction, practice, and assessments in addition to both Science and 8th-grade team weekly PLC meetings. • Gained experience working with a widely diverse student population, in a large school district, and a nationally ranked (#6) public secondary school (US News & World Report, 2021). Helped with daily lesson plans, classroom management, errands, and grading. Observed and reflected on the teaching methods and strategies of my cooperating teacher. Met and gained insight from other teachers in both the science and SPED departments. Gained experience teaching a lesson solo. Was inspired for my future career in teaching.
