To personally finance my studies I have continued to maintain part time work throughout my time at university. Five guys began as part time job to make money, however resulted in progression within the company to an elevated position as supervisor. This has given me the opportunity to work in a high intensity workplace, actively dealing with customers and other members of staff. My role as supervisor gives me the responsibility of up to 11 members of staff at any one time. Co-ordinating a team by the delegation of tasks, time keeping and people management are key transferable skills to any work place which has made my experience at Five Guys extremely valuable.

During my first academic year at university I worked part time in the Dunfermline branch of KFC. Due to commuting for 1 hour to get to work during term time, my shifts were predominantly on the weekends. Therefore this would often result in working for over 12 hours per shift giving me a strong work ethic. The experience included working long hours in a physically demanding role, constantly being productive and satisfying the customers needs. After I left the company due to location factors, I was granted the opportunity to continue my work for the company in other restaurants such as the Dundee store. My commitment to my role resulted in a strong relationship with management.

My first part time job as a sales assistant involved me working in a variety of sections within the store. Predominantly I worked in the footwear department which gave me a strong understanding of customer perception and how presentation can enhance the properties of a product, sparking intrugue from a consumer. My communication skills benefited from the continuous one to one discussions with customers on both the tills and the shop floor. This experience gave me an insight into the organisation of a large business, preparing me for future work experience.
