In this role I focused primarily on the implementation of groundwater recharge projects. I managed two grants totaling about $8.4 million dollars and provided project management for other grant programs. This required time management, consultant relations, technical writing, and constituent outreach. I also worked to develop a program to allow individual growers to utilize private flowmeters to measure groundwater consumption, in compliance with adopted groundwater allocations. This position required the ability to manage multiple projects at once and the ability to be flexible and accessible to constituents. This highly dynamic environment allowed me to utilize both soft and technical skills to solve complex issues and develop alternative courses of action, as necessary. Water Resources Specialist I

I started with Madera County in the Flood Control and Water Conservation Agency, while also providing support to the County Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs). In this role I was primarily responsible for working to improve the operations and maintenance of the flood control infrastructure within the County. This involved acquiring and managing grants for flood control maintenance and repair and coordinating with County Public Works and outside vendors to complete maintenance activities on and around project facilities. I also was responsible for compliance of the County's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) and other stormwater and water quality issues pursuant to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES). To support the GSAs I helped to implement a pilot of a water market project, assisted in developing groundwater allocations, and providing technical support and analysis for the development of water budgets for dairy facilities. As an instructor I am responsible for the supervision and instruction of classes for adults with developmental disabilities at the Center for Arts and Technology. In this role I served as an elected member of the corporate governing board of Cal Poly Associated Students Incorporated (ASI). This role required me to work with both my colleagues and constituents to find solutions to campus issues through legislation. As a representative from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design, I served as the official voice of students in that college and attended college council meetings to best represent their concerns on a campus wide level. The responsibilities of a member of the Board of Directors includes: attending bi-weekly board meetings, attending weekly board workshops, attending ASI standing and university wide committee meetings, approving the annual budget request and monitor the operating budget, providing oversight to corporate officers, and creating, revising, and monitoring ASI policy. In my third year, I was directly responsible for a floor of about 60 continuing students. As an RA I planned educational programming for my residents, upheld community standards and safety, and worked with campus partners to provide resources to residents. Due to the unpredictable nature of this line of work, the position required a great amount of flexibility and time management as situations can arise at any time. With the Planning Manager and Director of Development Services providing oversight, I was able to participate in numerous projects and meetings with both city staff and public entities. I worked on an individual project to catalog all of the vacant parcels in the city, to provide data to developers about potential areas of interest within the city.
