Cactus Club Cafe is well known for their dedication to providing exceptional guest service. This company prides itself on hiring candidates that are meticulously attentive to detail, personable, and committed to anticipating guest needs. Further, Cactus Club Cafe nurtures its employees and encourages upward mobility through internal promotions, many opportunities to try out different roles, and management that really cares about employee well-being. I was hired at Cactus Club Cafe in Toronto, ON as a server in March of 2022. I was provided with in-depth multi-faceted training that allowed me to enhance my knowledge of the industry standards, technical serving skills (such as traditional wine service), and table-side manner. Two months after being hired as a server, I applied for and was offered a promotion to the position of Shift Team Lead. As a Shift Team Lead, I acted as a management figure on the sales floor. My responsibilities included overseeing restaurant flow, planning and executing staff cuts throughout each shift, problem-solving in the face of guest complaints, and reducing company losses by auditing service and providing individualized feedback when necessary. There were also administrative responsibilities associated with this role including composing daily "logout reports" which include details on daily and hourly sales, analysis of restaurant flow, and cost of labour/labour percentage. This position was crucial to the enhancement of my customer service skills. It not only allowed me realize my passion for management, but fostered the basic skills necessary to be successful in such a role.

Home-Ec Cleaning Services is a family-owned residential cleaning service that has been operating since 2012. The owner and operator, Karen Cartwright, has established her business as a leader in affordable home cleaning services in Toronto, ON. Over the past 20 years of operation Home-Ec Cleaning Services has built trusted relationships with 20+ clients, with an active waitlist at any given time.I am Karen Cartwright's daughter (likely already relevant by the shared last name), and joined the company in 2018 as the part-time Customer Experience Lead. Given my fairly extensive background in retail, customer service, and service-industry positions, I was hired to ensure that all customer inquiries were swiftly and thoroughly seen to and dealt with. Such inquiries would centre around scheduling, quotes, and special requests. Further, I was tasked with handling communications referring to increases in rates, changes in company policies, and other such information. Nearing the end of my employment, I began recruiting new employees to expand the business due to the high demand that Home-Ec Cleaning Services are constantly experiencing. This position was extremely rewarding for more than the fact that it encouraged family interaction; I learned a great deal about customer experience maintenance, customer expectations, and communication in general. Working at Home-Ec Cleaning Services has allowed me to hone my skills in the customer experience industry and molded me into the perfect candidate for any fast-paced business communications environment.

Wingporium Sports Bar is a local sports bar and restaurant located in Etobicoke, ON. Wingporium specializes in serving premium fresh chicken wings, of which they offer 88 flavours . The sports bar is a neighbourhood favourite for family dinners, watching sports, and reliable service. Wingporium is family owned and operated, and maintains a loyal customer base with many daily "regulars". I was hired at Wingporium Sports Bar in 2018, just before starting at the University of Toronto. I was trained as a server, and later as a bartender. I was often responsible for the opening or closing of the entire restaurant, including counting of the tills and calculating tip-outs to the back of house staff. This role utilized my previous retail and customer service skills to ensure guest satisfaction. The restaurant is a busy environment and subsequently taught me how to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Being one of my first jobs in the service industry, working at Wingporium Sports Bar also revealed my love of customer interaction and rapport building. I thoroughly enjoyed the communication aspect of this role, finding that I was equipped with the perfect soft skills for serving, anticipating guest needs, and solving problems under pressure. I am grateful to have been afforded the opportunity to act in this role, as it demonstrated my ideal career path moving forward in a client-facing, problem-solving position.
