Postdoc Research Associate working on an ERC funded project into the utilisation of nanomaterials in devices designed to mimic biological processes. My specific project involves the in situ AFM imaging of nanoscale processes including catalytic reactions on nanoparticle surfaces and membrane polarisation. This project will continue until May 2018. Postdoc Research Associate working on an ERC funded project into the utilisation of nanomaterials in devices designed to mimic biological processes. My PhD thesis was conducted in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Manchester in the field of electrochemistry. My thesis entitled "Metallic Deposition at a Liquid/Liquid Interface: A Study of Chemical Speciation and Nucleation" involved research into spectroscopic techniques to follow the deposition of palladium and gold nanoparticles at the interface between two immiscible liquid phases. This approach has enabled us to provide insight into the reduction mechanism behind gold deposition and observations of the early stages of metallic nucleation using X-ray absorption spectroscopy. My PhD has involved a large amount of collaboration with fellow researchers at the University of Manchester and abroad. I have also been involved in the foundation of the UK Northwest Electrochemical Society Student Chapter which will enable us to organise events to boost the profile of electrochemistry in the North West and increase collaboration between the Universities.
