I deliver the Ad Hoc Inductions for personnel going out to the SHELL PRELUDE venture. This is the Worlds First Floating FLNG plant, the first cryogenic operation done entirely on the ocean, no need for onshore gas plants. The project is a massive game changer, making previously unviable gas fields accessible, with little onshore/environmental impact. Delivered & faciliatated " Älienated Youth at Risk" return to education according to 'Lakota Sioux Indian - Circle of Courage' methods. This progressive independent school also had a welfare arm attached to it where the students, who were often homeless, could get meals, access a food bank and use many available facilities. There was a 'Harm Minimisation' policy rather than 'Zero Tolerance'. I believe it is a leader in this area, attracting youth who could easily have been lost to education or a 'safe place' with the ability to form attachments to people who can mentor & guide them. Many alternative modalities were implemented. I believe that this school is progressively the template that should be followed for our youth who "slip through the cracks" both of education & society.

    • English Tutor
      • Feb 2002 - Sep 2004

I tutored English to Mature Age Japanese Students who used to come over on a Training Package. They would pay to stay in a motel and have a 1 on 1 English Tutor for designated time periods. Usually 2 + weeks. English Theory and Grammar would be completed in the morning and the afternoons were spent travelling around Perth, using the language skills that they had just learnt. Therefore getting a 1 on 1 travel guide that would accompany them to tourist spots - museum, art gallery, Kings Park, Zoo etc. informing them on local history yet also improving English pronunciation. It was mostly conversational English rather than formal English. So that they could return to Japan having enough English skills to hold conversations or improve business prospects. Quite often, it was to surprize friends and family returning from a brief holiday with this new English speaking expertise!I met some wonderful friends this way.

Delivering 'One on One' Conversational English lessons to Mature Age Japanese students. These students spent the morning in class learning conversational English pronunciation & grammar. Often using reality based situations. The afternoon involved going out into the community, using the skills gained earlier: catching transport, eating at a restaurant, shopping, sightseeing etc. Thus the student gained intensive one on one individual English Language tutoring & a Tourist Guide.

I completed an Horticultural Apprenticeship at the Yallourn Power Stations and old Yallourn Township. This included 3-4 years at Oakleigh Horticultural College. We landscaped and maintained the entire Power Station works area. This included the planting of annual flower beds, designing and landscaping areas for beautification, maintaining turf areas for workers recreation. Looking after various ponds, fountains and water features. The annual pruning of Street side Plane trees. The basic maintenance of mowing, edging, pruning, watering and fertilising of areas. There was also 4 Glasshouses & numerous shade houses that was the main propagation area. These produced all of the plants needed for the works area, including all office indoor plants. 2 acres of market gardens were also planted - this allowed floristry bouquets to be made up for the various personnel who were retiring or given awards. We also provided floral arrangements at personnel funerals or weddings.Yallourn township had to be re-located, so we had to relocate as many plants as possible to the new township, including those around public amenities - Bowling club, Pool, Tennis & parks. As part of the relocation program, people who were forced to move were able to come & choose 20 plants/trees from our nursery section. This apprenticeship gave me an all round understanding of all aspects of Horticulture.
