  As a newsroom manager I helped edit, craft and publish reporters work. Running the newsroom meant thinking strategically and I loved helping our newsroom stand out by sharing my ideas. (We won regional newspaper of the year at the Voyager awards, and have been finalists three times.) I loved mentoring young reporters and still get a thrill seeing their bylines around NZ.

  As a reporter I made and maintained a large number of contacts in the Nelson area. I wrote on a wide range of stories including the court and emergency services round. I was a finalist in the Qantas Media Awards in the crime and justice section. I wrote on a wide range of topics, and developed series on Nelson's Housing Crisis and Social Isolation.
