Salena Bailey is not only a ray of sunshine who brings laughter and joy to any office; she is a highly-talented fundraising professional. In my two years working with Salena, I witnessed and learned from her leadership, her strong work ethic, and her grace under pressure. Salena is beyond organizationally-adept, managing Meals on Wheels SF' annual fund, donor relations, and the organization's successful annual gala (among many other responsibilities). Most of all, I was and continue to be inspired by her mission-oriented approach to her work. Salena is driven by her deep-seated desire to provide resources for our community's underserved populations. I'm endlessly proud to have worked with her; anyone who has the chance to do so will be delighted.

I worked with Salena for 3 years, collaborating to provide community-engaged learning opportunities for USF students as tutors, teachers, researchers, and also tech support. We worked together to support almost 100 students, 2 technical projects, and 1 research project. Salena has been the most reliable partner in every aspect. She was an excellent leader of the team of all different backgrounds and interests: USF faculty, students, staff and clients at the computer lab. She integrated us and balanced our workloads and interests. She has superb people and communication skills and uses them for efficient and effective project management. I highly recommend Salena for any position that requires strong leadership and collaboration skills.

Since 2014, I’ve provided oversight of strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of all fundraising initiatives, collaborating closely with marketing, business operations, finance, IT, and legal to devise fundraising policies and procedures that align with mission objectives and regulatory guidelines. The primary focus of my role involves formulating donor action plans from prospect research and automated reports that track metrics on event results, donor cycles, and revenue. I oversee all processes for data collection, entry, integrity and usability. We leverage the data to create a year-round stewardship, communications and recognition program which includes a direct mail campaign with 15 mailings per year—which has been a significant factor in expanding, engaging and retaining active membership within the donor portfolio. On the technology side, I managed an 8-month data migration project, upgrading from Raiser’s Edge to Salesforce, NPSP (Nonprofit Success Pack) platform. I worked with vendor partners for the integration and allocated internal resources to perform an intensive data cleanup and verification testing, which streamlined the process and helped us deliver the migration on schedule and $10K under budget. I also partnered with the finance team to integrate the finance and accounting systems into one donor database, establishing a single, reliable “source of truth” for all data used in audits and regulatory reporting, which significantly minimized risk and exposure for the organization. During my tenure in this role, I led programs which grew the donor base from 16K to 30K+ participants and increased online and email donations from $350K to $700K annually. We generated revenue growth from $5M to $8M in annual fund and events. One event in particular raised $3.5M—the annual Star Chefs & Vintners Gala with 1,000 attendees.

My work with SFNM was focused on establishing the Tenderloin Technology Lab, which we grew from the ground up, and involved pooling resources with the St. Anthony Foundation. I developed a curriculum of 250 computer training courses for the lab, which offered computer access, instruction and repair to 100+ clients daily. Various spinoff projects followed, collaborating with a diverse group of corporate and community partners. We raised $30K to fund quarterly computer repair events at the lab, fixing 640+ computers for low-income residents. We also received $50K worth of computer donations and assistance with computer installation and technical support services through a key partnership with the University of San Francisco. We also received national press coverage from San Francisco Chronicle and Wired and Fortune magazines on our development of an interactive website that linked low-income and homeless residents to the lab’s support services.
