  I have acquired skills in the laboratory including, acid/ base titration, IR, NMR and Mass Spectra, gas chromatography, visible spectroscopy, recrystallization, distillation, separation, melting point determination, TLC, Flash Column, and the ability to analyze. Not only do I have skills in the chemistry laboratory, but also the biology laboratory. I am currently conducting my independent study and the purpose of this research is to extract and isolate the natural product components from plant material and determine their antimicrobial properties. The way I am accomplishing this is by first extracting the compounds from plant material and determining what the compounds are through the use of IR, NMR, UV-Vis and finally analyzing the antimicrobial activities such as broth dilution assay, and agar well diffusion assay.
