1998-2006: I supervised multiple avian research and monitoring projects to investigate community patterns in habitat use, demography, and species interactions. Important to this research was its application to restoration, land and water management, and conservation policy. As such, my time was also spent participating in Joint Ventures, technical committees, and working groups, and cultivating regional collaborations with land managers, municipal agencies, conservation and policy organizations, academic researchers, and community members. I hired and supervised over 50 full-time and seasonal staff and interns (up to 14/yr), some with whom I continue to collaborate. My additional duties included proposal writing, fundraising, and budget management for all project related expenses, including salaries and stipends for assistants and myself; with co-PIs I raised over 1 million dollars.2007-2010: Worked part time assisting with leadership transition and training, data collection, report writing, proposal writing, data analysis, and peer reviewed publication submissions, while completing prerequisite graduate requirement courses, and then while obtaining my MSc.

As a co-founder, founding board member, and ecologist, I helped develop Oikonos’ integrative science-art-conservation vision. With collaborators from UC Riverside and Point Blue Conservation Science, I initiated studies on the nesting ecology of birds recolonizing the recovering tributary streams of Mono Lake, California, with a focus on the identification of Yellow Warbler nest predators and patterns in predation risk. This study complemented my on-going work with Point Blue Conservation Science at the time. I feel lucky to continue to drop in on this fantastic organization to spend field time with Oikonos ecologists!
