  Since 2000, I have collaborated with the School of Geochemistry, Mineralogy, and Petrography of the University of Silesia on research in the field of organic geochemistry. As part of this collaboration I was involved in the work on 8 research grants (KBN, MNISW, NCN). The research conducted as a part of these grants was focused on the identification of organic molecules occurring naturally in sedimentary rocks originating from various geological periods. The process of organic matter fossilisation is a source of biomarkers, which allow to determine the conditions (temperature, pressure, other geological factors) of diagenetic alteration in sedimentary rocks. Reconstruction of the sedimentation conditions of organic matter and determining the degree of its thermal transformation is significant in research of fossil fuel, such as carbon, methane or oil, obtained either by conventional drilling or fracking. GC/MS was used in the analysis of bitumens and kerogen isolated from various sedimentary rocks. The result of this work is a series of papers in the field of organic geochemistry.
