Sr Elasticsearch Engineer

Jul 2021 - Jun 2023
Management of 20 environments of elasticsearch and opensearch services of public health data. Working with various PHI related environments of health data and securing pipelines, search, and databases appropriately.5 running through AWS elasticsearch & opensearch service1 running on an EC2 instance 11 running in EC2 backed kubernetes clusters, and managed through Rancher and k9sAnd 2 environments on azure AKS.Now running most environments through terraform modules (and projects) written by me. Having used puppet and ansible in the past, I believe terraform to be the most useful infrastructure management tool for cloud based systems. Plenty of IAM, S3, CloudWatch, and other AWS tools used almost daily. Show less

Full ELK stack, support the tuning, optimization, and utilization of many different use case clusters. Redhat Linux shop. Different use cases of elastic systems I currently work directly on//support: - Kubernetes based clusters for KafkaConnector clusters, and unimportant elastic infrastructure. Kibana instances likewise built and maintained in these environments by me with security included in all spaces involved. Monitored through graphana and basic health calls. - Puppet infrastructure based environments for on premise self hosted clusters. I currently maintain 5 environments through this format, building through a modified puppet forge module. These environments are all secured by me and upgrades performed twice per year. Started from 6.1.2 and now run 7.9.x - RPM based environments built and maintained by internal tooling--these are deployments that are outside the puppet infrastructure in order to have more flexibility in their configurations. Versioning built by bamboo and stored/tracked via nexus vault. - Search based clusters. These are a different use case than typical monitoring in that elastic is being used as a backend for a search feature--similar to linkedin's search, as well as a bitbucket environment for searching through code bases. - Beats products deployed typically through puppet, or directly as RPMs on supported teams environments. All types of beats products supported in multiple environments. - Bulk Loading jobs through spark and other various python based bulk loads into the elastic environment Experience in garbage collection analysis of elastic products to find 'comfort zone' in maintaining a good steady state java environment, as well as switching from oracle based java to openJDK. All projects are maintained through a team shared internal repo in bitbucket. Kubernetes environments are maintained by helm charts modified by me to match the requirements of the environment.
