Having worked for Telos for over a decade already on a contract basis, I'm now coming on as an employee. I'm working on multiple products, including MPX Node, but I'm also working in DevOps and Security capacities. This allows most of the on-air chain equipment to stay at the studio rather than at the transmitter site. I am working on low-level hardware/software integration, Linux kernel, u-boot, and Buildroot integrations with the applications that make this product what it is. I'm also working on some products still in development to replace aging products that haven't been publicly announced yet. In addition to the above projects, I'm also maintaining our DevOps servers and infrastructure, and forming our product security activities and responses. My focus is to move into product and project security activities as the need for various levels of security activites have become much more important. Picked up several contracts including playing a central role in designing and supporting a business and government focused Internet Service Provider, providing occasional networking support to a Wireless ISP, and providing Satellite and Terrestrial RF systems and Linux server support to a previous employer. Designed and currently maintain the entire back end server infrastructure for one ISP utilizing Ubuntu Linux and including services such as email, FTP, SSH, DNS, MySQL, web, and network monitoring. Installed and maintained multiple Linux servers based on Fedora, CentOS, and Ubuntu for varying needs, such as email, file serving, large high-bandwidth high-latency satellite file transfers, and Asterisk VoIP PBX. Designed and rolled out some changes to a wireless ISP to convert their network from completely bridged to fully redundant routed links utilizing OSPF to help the network respond to changes automatically which greatly increased network speed and reliability and reduced customer complaints significantly. BGP was deployed to enable multiple upstream ISP circuits, providing survivability in the event of a failure of one upstream ISP. Travelled to Afghanistan to install and configure satellite and IP network equipment and train the deployed team on how to properly maintain and operate the deployed system. Trained several teams of people deploying to various locations throughout the Middle East in the proper usage of GATR inflatable satellite antennas and associated satellite terminal equipment. Integrated, managed, and assisted in the design of a unique satellite-based communications truck for the City of Chicago's Office of Emergency Management and Communication to handle 911 call processing and Police, Fire, and EMS dispatching in the event of a massive failure of the primary 911 communication center. Created training materials and trained city staff on the capabilities and proper operation of the emergency communications truck. Installed and maintained a Ku-band iDirect shared satellite hub for the City of Chicago, and integrated many disparate networks into the satellite architecture. Managed Chicago's Computer Aided Dispatch network for their 911 call center. Performed as the lead network engineer to bring existing satellite communication capabilities to Chicago Fire. Trained as a Facility Security Officer and COMSEC custodian. Participated in DIACAP reviews and activities.
