  In my current role heading up ME Development’s planning work, I project manage a wide range of schemes from relatively small scale, high-end residential development, through to large-scale and complex planning applications relating to strategic and non-strategic residential and commercial development proposals.Leading the preparation and submission of detailed planning applications for both large and smaller development schemes including applications relating to town centre regeneration, flatted developments, rural developments, changes of use of buildings and land, smaller bespoke residential, mixed use and community-led schemes, listed buildings, planning conditions, NMAs, S73 applications, matters involving planning enforcement and S78 appeals. Following the grant of permission, planning work continues including close collaboration with technical and design colleagues and consultants. At ME Developments, we understand the importance of engaging with local residents and key stakeholders at an early stage and we regularly deliver public consultation and engagement exercises. We also provide newsletters throughout the construction process providing important information about the build programme. In addition to project management, I undertake the development appraisal of potential sites and where appropriate, pursue the acquisition of the site (or alternative arrangement) and establish a planning strategy to bring the site forward for development in line with the company’s requirements.

  Working at D&M Planning Limited, a well renowned and established practice of planning consultants, allowed me to take forward my experience in development management and strategic land obtained in local government during my time working for Waverley Borough Council. I advised clients on their individual planning proposals for commercial, residential and agricultural development, submit planning applications, pursued appeals and advise on enforcement issues on sites throughout Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire and the London Boroughs. As a Principle Planning Consultant I worked with clients from providing development appraisals and feasibility reports, through to obtaining the relevant permissions and assisting in the delivery of the scheme. I would take the lead on managing the professional team of specialist consultants and architects to deliver the project. I also led on the judicial review of a number of planning appeal decisions in which the High Court found in our favour and quashed the decisions made by the Inspectors appointed by the SoS, after which planning permission was then granted.

  As a Senior Planning Officer, I worked within the Development Management Team dealing with a wide range of major and minor planning applications, including planning appeals, prior approvals, certificates, consultations and pre-application advice. Managing a case load included the carrying out of site visits, preparation of reports, making recommendations and monitoring development to ensure it accords with the approved plans and consideration of compliance with condition.My role included working closely with internal and external consultees, technical consultants, negotiating with developers to ensure high quality developments can be achieved, representing the Council at public meetings, presenting to the Councils Development Control Committee and working alongside Councillors and members of the public.
