• Designed a machine that is capable of filtering hydraulic fluid used within the HEB dairy plant to a minimum of three-micron cleanliness, the machine must be mobile, automated, and capable of interfacing with the factory infrastructure to allow for remote monitoring. As a project engineer, I designed the overall concept, geometry, filtration process, and oversaw component selection. • Project Experience: o Hydraulic System Design The hydraulic filtration system needed to be comprised of a holding reservoir, filtration chamber, and final filtration check. To accomplish these three processes the filtration devices geometry, pump requirements, sensing/actuating devices, budget, and serviceability were considered using heat mapping and down selection to weigh the possible pros and cons of each component and or process selection. o Management Coordinated with design engineers to ensure that designs and components selected were able to interface and operate properly with other components within the filtration assembly. • Analyze existing factory conditions and process and seek ways to improve them utilizing principles of process engineering concepts, such as six sigma and lean manufacturing. • Project Experience: o Adhesive Viscosity Study Alternative adhesives used to aid in supply chain issues resulted in poor bond in final product. Poor bonding was determined to be correlated with low adhesive viscosity. Low adhesive viscosity was determined to be caused by environmental temperatures and insufficient adhesive settling time. To remedy this, procedures for adhesive processing were added to allow for a longer settling time, and a benchmark requirement for adhesive viscosity was established. o Fabric Holding Device Unbalanced fabric rolls resulted in material unwinding in the staging areas causing issues with production. Using pre-existing mounting points, a resting device was designed and integrated onto the fabric roll shafts, said device meets with a pneumatically actuated piston attached to the staging area to prevent the fabric from unwinding. o Idler Attachment Device Pre-existing magnetic idler mounts utilized during fabric winding process had issues maintaining stable connection with the collection frame when large amounts of product were processed. A Specialized clamp design with offset idler mounting points was created to allow for idler mounting to be more stable while keeping removal and set-up time minimal. o Process Specification Revision Process and General Reformatting Broad changes to process specification sheets were lengthy to achieve due to decentralized files. Updated file structure to fill process specification sheets automatically based on an easily modifiable central data page. Show less
