Messenger-at-Arms & Sheriff Officer
-
Apr 2008 - Present
I started as a Trainee Sheriff Officer, which entailed a 3 year training syllabus of in-house study. I sat monthly examinations which each required an 80% pass mark. After concluding the syllabus, I then sat the examinations set out by the Professional Body, SMASO (Society of Messenger-at-Arms & Sheriff Officers). After successfully passing 2 examinations, I qualified as a Sheriff Officer in 2011 and I now hold all 6 Commissions allowing me to work throughout Scotland and the Islands. After further studies, I went on to sit and pass 2 further examinations and qualified as a Messenger-at-Arms in 2015. My official functions are: Collect any debt constituted by decree or recoverable by summary warrant; Execute diligence; or Execute a citation or serve any document required under any legal process.
