  I am an innovative and enthusiastic leader that thrives on challenges and solving problems, often through building partnerships within the community and collaborating with community organizations. For example, when posed with the challenge of increasing the number of active library card registrations in Arlington, I led the launch of the Library Card Sign Up Challenge, a highly successful advocacy campaign done in collaboration with three neighboring communities, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, and 27 local businesses, which resulted in a 183% increase in new library card registrations during the month of February 2013. When it comes to providing the highest level of service to the community, I am not afraid to take calculated risks. Recently, I empowered my staff to implement an innovative project that changed the paradigm for how we provide access to technology by eliminating the majority of our wired public PCs in favor of laptops distributed through a self-service vending machine. This project has been a huge success and was featured in the June 1, 2014 issue of Library Journal. I do not shy away from being a highly visible advocate for libraries, whether it be presenting to local community groups, visiting my local elected representatives at the state house, shooting PSAs for the local community media channel, writing a regular library column for the paper, or holding a press conference in the library. Under my leadership, circulation of library materials has increased, patron access to computers has tripled, and programming has expanded.
