I had the great pleasure to teach and coach Ryan for several years at Mira Costa High School. Hard-working, determined, enthusiastic and caring are the traits that most clearly define Ryan Franklin as an outstanding young man. As a baseball coach at Mira Costa, I came to know Ryan not only as an athlete passionate about his own conditioning and skill improvement, but also as a caring young man who freely gives of his time to help improve the prospects of teammates and younger players. Ryan is a classic example of the athlete with the character and drive that coaches so appreciate and admire. Ryan leads effectively by word and deed, a guy who brings "glue" to a team, helping to build the collective attitude so essential to success. I have also had the pleasure of teaching Ryan in my 10th grade World History class and Senior U.S. Government class. Ryan was consistently responsible with all of his assigned work and brought his characteristic quest for excellence to his academic challenges. Ryan has been unafraid to misstep in his determined pursuit of knowledge and improvement of his academic skills. His affable and humble personality made Ryan well liked and admired.
