Reporting directly to the Senior IoT Systems Architect, my main role as an IoT Application Development Technician was to develop and test the Chesterton Connect mobile app. This app was written in Xamarin Forms (C#). I was also responsible for testing and comparing various cloud platform providers to help the team choose one to build applications on. This included developing various microservices and web apps that integrated with the different platforms. Other responsibilities I had in this role: - Setup and maintain AWS databases - Competitor product analysis

My responsibilities range from developing testing software to designing test cases and plans for our Smart Home mobile apps. I work closely with the software developers on the Smart Home R&D team as well as our teams in China and Germany. My software development in this position includes a proof-of-concept Android app that interacts directly with our Bluetooth Smart Lights. Creating this app required me to work directly with the product firmware developers and it was eventually sent to an app development company to create a production-ready Bluetooth Mesh Android app. I have also developed a website that utilizes a Raspberry Pi and our Bluetooth Smart Lights that can be used to test our lights.I also designed the test cases and test plans in JIRA using the Xray plugin. The tests tested not only our Bluetooth Mesh Android/iOS apps but also the light firmware itself. One challenge that I had to overcome during this process was writing the tests from a perspective of someone who had never used the app before. As our teams in China and Germany would be using these tests, it was very important that the tests were fool-proof. The test cases and plans are used before each release of our app to ensure that every part of the app is working as it should, from the light firmware to the cloud to the UI.I worked very closely with the Android, Cloud, and Light Firmware Developers during the creation of our app and had a lot of hands-on experience. I introduced design proposals for new features and enhancements as well as helped find and resolve bugs. I also helped manage the Project on JIRA.

    • Software Engineer Internship - Smart Home Team
      • Oct 2016 - Jun 2018

At LEDVANCE I have had the opportunity to learn and complete projects in a lot of areas, all of them involving Smart Home technologies. Some of these projects include developing Android Mobile Apps that communicate with out Smart LED Lights (using both ZigBee and Bluetooth protocols), creating Samsung SmartThings Device Handlers that work with our ZigBee products, customer support, software and product testing, among other things. I have also gotten a look at how the business itself operates and how the IoT/Smart Home market is evolving.

Developed code in C++, part of which included a CSV file parser. Information was read in from a SQL Database and my program sorted all of the information by a company's unique ID number. I also got an opportunity to do some research related to Cyber Security. I researched the likelihood of a total U.S. blackout and what it would take to create one.
