Research Assistant
-
Aug 2016 - May 2018
Did you know that you can be diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy between the ages of 2-16 or even past the age of 25? Cell communication is important for the development of life. Without this communication, developmental diseases and disorders, like MD, can occur. By looking at certain genes involved in development we are able to see some of the possible effects of these mutations. This is accomplished by using unicellular organisms (like amoebas) as models, which can provide us ways to examine how they might affect multicellular organisms like humans. This could lead to faster diagnosing of genetic disorders and may even lead to better and more out-of-the-box treatments to help children with genetic mutations, such as Muscular Dystrophy or Cancer, live the best life possible.
