Managing the front desk basically is performing the check in/check out process of any hotel. But to actually run the front desk means that you are responsible for the entire hotel. There are many times when the general manager is out of town and then more than ever, the front desk clerk is running the whole motel. You manage the housekeeping staff, and assign their work, you run the buffet breakfast while it is open and either take care of it yourself, or assign someone to do so. It is like running a small restaurant. And you are also responsible for managing the maintenance worker, informing him of what needs his attention, and keeping track of what is repaired and what needs repair. Also, there is the give & take with all the guests, and as much as possible assist them in having a good experience. Also, dealing with their problems are the most difficult situations any desk clerk encounters. Gradually, over time, I have begun to understand this process and have become more effective in dealing with guest problems. Show less
