Rujen made a considerable impact on SimpliSafe’s Customer Relations Engineering team during the Summer of 2021. The summer months were a crucial time period to advance an email migration project and promote sender reputation prior to the holiday marketing period. To effectively transition some transactional emails, our engineering team needed to build a service that resolved Subscriber identifiers in our email marketing platform so that users could be targeted by CSV list sends. A new PHP microservice had just been launched to streamline email communications across SimpliSafe’s distributed app ecosystem. Rujen jumped into building a React UI and backend processing logic for this email microservice to accept a source file, resolve Subscriber identifiers, and send a result file via the email platform. Rujen was challenged in several technical areas fitting the application architecture while building the full feature. Tasks processed over AWS SQS queues were modeled by Data Transfer Objects, files were stored in AWS S3, and local data storage used MySQL and Doctrine ORM. Result emails were sent via a REST API. Rujen achieved an understanding of most of these areas at a quick rate and required minimal oversight for the duration of the project. Rujen shows great potential as a software engineer and as Rujen’s mentor during his internship, I would highly recommend him for roles where he can be challenged and learn from other experienced developers.
