  As a teacher of French at LingoFlamingo, I plan and deliver language learning classes to older adults, many of which live with mild cognitive decline or early-stage dementia. Founded on research that suggests that multilingualism can delay the onset of conditions such as dementia, my classes seek to improve the cognitive health of individuals whilst enriching their lives by developing new skills, learning about other cultures, and having some fun along the way. In this position I draw upon my knowledge, skills, and passion surrounding linguistics, language learning, and motor-sensory teaching to make a difference to the lives of my students and hopefully inspire them. I look forward to exploring and furthering this alternative intervention as a means of tackling a very real issue facing a large demographic of our society. Show less
