While working for Groundwork I was employed as a Young people participation worker, within my Role as a YPP I would work closely with volunteers to assess, plan and run sessions around the Talent Match program and look at personal development of the volunteers. I was responsible for looking at training needs and sourcing this for the volunteers, I 2018 Currentalso contacted all volunteers and arranged youth forums, volunteer meetings and linking our volunteers up with other organisations on a weekly basis. I also worked to a budget and handled petty cash on a regular basis putting systems in place for the volunteers with support from my line manager and team. Another part of my role was to deliver training to young people throughout the county linking with partners and other organisations to source groups of people to undertake training. The training I delivered was how to plan an event/activity and would bring volunteers with me to deliver this to give them the experience of running a training session. I would also support the volunteers in dealing with issues they were having in their personal lives or referring them to other specialist organisations.

Youth Team Lead
-
Apr 2007 - Apr 2016
I was youth team lead worker creating session plans and developing a program of work for a variety of children and young people on various programmes. I also completed case studies on young people reviewing baselines and progressions made including young people in this process. I also completed reports to funding partners and also coordinated on 2 projects completing risk assessments for with all activities. Before working for Groundwork, I was a volunteer for them and was one of the role models for other young people. I feel I have a particularly good skill of empathy and I am able to relate with young people, adapt and change to new environments and circumstances, building new relationships quickly. One part of my role was to work in schools around Nottingham as an achievement coach. This looked at working with young people in a holistic manner including home life and school life and supporting them through issues that had been highlighted by the school and the young person. Likewise it also 2007 May 2016required meeting parents and discussing issues and how we could support them to address them. We used practical coping strategies and resilience building in order to help young people be able to address not only current but future issues in a positive and constructive manner. Additionally part of my work was to host play sessions with local hostels and mother and baby units supporting parents to develop play and parenting skills with their children. With this I would put together sessions that would help to develop parenting skills and interactive play for both parents and children. These would have to be adapted as the age group I would work with varied from new born to 13 years of age.

Key Worker
-
May 2016 - Jan 2018
I was a key worker for Safe Haven Accommodation supporting 2 young people with multiple issues, these spanned from substance abuse to mental health issues. As a key worker I worked with the young people to plan their week, taking in to account their needs and how the activity would support addressing these as well as continuing their development. I also supported young people in managing finances and planning activities. With this role I attended meetings with the young people as an advocate including with social worker to plan next steps, doctors’ appointments or substance support meetings. Each week I would create a report on the young person activities and progressions collated from daily reports created by myself and other staff members. I would also create and update risk assessments every month. I also provided night time support ensuring 24 hour support. This role required dealing with difficult behaviour, challenging perceptions, helping young people to make positive choices, building confidence, finding and providing different opportunities and supporting young people to move forward with their lives. I helped to create a feedback tool for young people to access, this was done with young people ensuring that is was both accessible and appealing. This tool was given to young people when they first interacted with the organisation to ensure they were empowered and informed as to how feedback on and instigate change to the programme. Although I enjoyed working with the young people an opportunity presented April 2016 Jan 2018itself within Groundwork which I was passionate about and that gave me a greater reach to helping more young people.

Working at the college I worked with some of the more difficult young people that were also associated with the unity programme. The young people I worked with were constantly interrupting each other and made it difficult for each other to learn, they had poor GCSE results and because of the work load of the teacher they couldn't all get the specific help they needed, I took it upon myself to identifytheir individual needs and spend time with each young person helping with their course work and behaviour in class and on 3 occasions covering the class for teachers when they were unable to take it. With my support the young people were able to improve their course work grades and go from E's to a few A's, B's and C's. I acquired many new skills and was able to better myself and learn more about the young people in Nottingham. During my time on this program I was able to help a group of 10 young males who were on the verge of being kicked out of college due to poor attendance, behaviour issues and lack of work. They were able to stay in college and complete the course with passing grades. I supported them with time keeping meetings and creating a timetable of events for them, helping them to find a balance between work and play.

While working for Connexions my time was split into 3 areas Unity football and education program, South Nottingham College and Connexions as a PA with focus on the unity u19 academy. While working with Connexions I undertook a number of training courses to help with interviewing young people as well as statutory training including Safeguarding. I would also help young people with any issues they had such as wanting help to find work, family troubles, finding education or training courses or just someone to speak to about issues. After working with a young person I would record this on the company database insight and issue the young person an action plan with agreed upon actions coming back to these the next time we met in order to check progress to see where further support was needed. I would also help young people to create a new up to date C.V that they could use to apply for jobs or accompany them to college interviews for support. I would also challenge things on behalf of the young people I worked with. South
