Programme Manager, GemFair •Developed and oversaw GemFair’s due diligence management system for all sourcing and trading in ASM materials which resulted in detailed compliance criteria on labour conditions, human rights and environmental impact management for suppliers and a roadmap for risk management planning. •Launched the GemFair Responsible Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Assurance Programme, based on De Beers Group’s Assurance Programme, which resulted in the first published ASM Assurance Framework, including a Standard, Manual and Audit Assessment surveys for diamonds based on current best practice in responsible sourcing, including ILO, UN and NGO guidelines. •Adapted Anglo-American and De Beers Group social, labour and environmental policies and procedures to GemFair’s unique operating environment. •Led materiality reviews and consultations with in-country and international civil society organisations, which enhanced and protected De Beers Group’s brand equity. •Advised in-country team on resourcing requirements including evaluating individual skill-sets and team composition, to enhance the assurance programme training of suppliers which fostered a culture of continuous improvement for artisanal diamond miners. •Led the implementation of a social responsibility strategy for the organisation, drawing on technological and operational solutions, providing key inputs for the overall business strategy, which resulted in a win-win solution for both business and social impact outcomes for GemFair.
