Ruby Johnson served as a member of the CedarS Camps staff during the summer of 2022. As a new hire, Ruby learned our organization's systems and subject areas very quickly. She was a dream employee-- hard working, communicative, ethical, mature, consistent, organized, joyful, and flexible! I watched her work with campers from diverse backgrounds with compassion and grace. The junior staff who served under her commented on her strong mentoring and coaching skills-- and how much they appreciated her guidance and support. As a camp director, I appreciated her warm sense of hospitality, customer service skills, and proactivity. And she has a beautiful voice-- as well a gift at inspiring individuals and groups to sing! I'd hire her back in a heartbeat!

I've had the great pleasure of working with Ruby in a team for 5 years. In every instance, she has shown tremendous dedication to her work and her team's objectives. Ruby understands the goal at hand and the bigger picture of what the team is trying to achieve. As an educator, she puts great effort in connecting with her students and peers. When preparing lessons, she understands the need for scaffolding and differentiation to create dynamic learning environments for all students. As a musician and vocalist, she is talented and very dedicated to her craft. Ruby's preparation for performances is thorough and when she performs, she moves the crowd by the grace and beauty of her music. Ruby is reliable, dedicated, life-long learner, thinks outside the box, and is very caring of people. I highly recommend her as an asset of your team in any capacity.

    • Preschool Music Teacher
      • Sep 2018 - Dec 2019

      • Created and taught weekly music classes from a personally designed, year-long curriculum to children ages 3–5• Utilized immersive storytelling techniques to share musical concepts with young children in a fun, engaging wayMy music classes were taught from a personally designed curriculum and focused on music appreciation and an introduction to foundational musical concepts (tempo, dynamics, song form, etc). A sense of magic and a focus on student-driven discovery learning were at the heart of each lesson. The "Magical Mystery Musical Bag" set the tone: Only revealed to the children each week after the singing of a very special song, the object inside this shiny, red bag was key to the theme of the day's lesson. From there, the confines of the music classroom posed no barrier to our musical exploration! Equipped with "Wings of Imagination," the children were invited on fantastical journeys of discovery: From taking a "train ride" across various musical timelines and genres (the effect of which was created with the help of hidden speakers in the classroom that played songs and sound effects, timed and edited to match the lesson) to paying a visit to the Musical Gnomes of Composition Valley, the learning experiences in my classes were wholly immersive and engaging.I am aware that the experiences my students have in my classes were likely to be their first introduction to the formal study of music; and I therefore took great care to incorporate music from various cultures, time periods, and genres into my lessons. Above all else, I aimed to instill in my students the sense that music, in its limitless variety and diversity, was available to each of them—to engage with, to find solace in, and to share with others.
