Ruan was able to build out an advanced Tableau environment using his own initiative at JUMO in a relatively short space of time. Ruan has always been able to maximise his ROI in Tableau by implementing the latest innovations and best practices available in an efficient way. He was looking to drive collaboration between JUMO and Tableau. Overall, he was a great guy to work with!

As an individual, Ruan is one of the friendliest people I know (always smiling), with an empathy for people and a good communicator. His passion for whatever he does is contagious, being always professional, with a keen eye for detail and is product driven. As a leader, he leads by example, caring for the people in his team, always having a patient ear, and motivating and growing them. Ruan always had a strong sense and direction for his team. I enjoyed our time working together and look forward to working with him again sometime in the future.

I was fortunate to lead a team of incredibly talented BI specialists - a team we built from the ground up while I was at JUMO. It was a great learning experience from both a technical and managerial point of view to start a team, set the standards, lead from the front and eventually empower the team to be self-sufficient. We were responsible for all aspects of reporting and analytics to our internal and external partners - and we managed to create some special products (reports, portals etc.) and tools (an end to end report automation framework) during my time there. As a BI analyst at Shoprite (for IQ), my primary responsibilities included: project work (from inception to delivery), adhoc investigations, data analysis and profiling, user support (from staff to Exec level) and training / mentoring. Shoprite had the multi-dimensional problem of complex data, huge data volumes (big data) and a large user community to serve - It was quite a challenging, but rewarding environment to work in.

Before moving to the Business Intelligence team I was involved in the SAP Retail implementation where I was primarily responsible (as BA) for the Promotions area in the SAP Pricing team. I have also completed numerous other projects as a BA in the IT Business Solutions team. I have been with IQ Business since December 2008 and before getting involved with Shoprite I also worked with the following clients: FNB Homeloans, Bridge Shipping, SAMAF and Argo.

Dunns afforded me the opportunity to be part of the IT project steering committee tasked with completely rewriting their current Merchandising, Distribution and POS systems. Whilst this major project was underway, I was also involved in many smaller projects – a redesign of their current virtual voucher system and a loyalty card initiative being examples of such projects. Apart from doing all the typical BA duties, I was also responsible for managing the UCS account (software service providers supporting the current operational systems) in terms of change requests; bug tracking and standard software maintenance support and SLA’s. Through this role I gained invaluable experience in managing relationships (conflict management, win-win scenario’s etc.) between various parties. Show less

I worked for Planet Fitness as a Systems Analyst (primarily) and ‘occasional’ Software Developer. It was my first real introduction to the business side of an organisation as I have previously only worked for a large IT company focusing primarily on software development and support. In my role as Systems Analyst (without the presence of a BA) I primarily dealt with users, 3rd party software providers and other service providers (Dimension Data, Sahara Computers and a couple of Telecom providers). Some of the user requests ended up in software solutions that I was solely responsible for. Show less

My first job was to develop, maintain and support retail software for some of the UCS Software clients in South Africa. I learned so much about structured programming in a corporate environment and supporting a client's business - it was a truly great start to a young career.
