I grew up on a mixed livestock and dairy farm in Herefordshire and naturally developed a deep understanding of the industry. My career to date has taught me a lot about the needs of farmers and landowners and I now have a range of area specific skills to bring to the business. Having worked with specialist rural surveyors for over 25 years I am familiar with the many aspects of their work. My role as director of Rostons is primarily to oversee the day to day running of the business. This includes the finances, marketing and advertising for the company. Promotion and publicity tasks may be anything from updating the website to attending events and shows where I may be speaking to the audience or meeting and greeting delegates. Nantwich Show, local to us, is the biggest one day agricultural event in the country and offers an ideal informal platform for promoting our services and meeting with existing and potential clients. Another of my responsibilities at Rostons is to monitor workloads, managing staff as well as managing the office. The success of any business relies on each member of the team being fully involved and understanding the aims and vision of the business. Communication within the company is the basis for good teamwork. At Rostons we have a real commitment to our clients and are extremely proud of our reputation. Our quarterly newsletter keeps clients informed of changes in funding and legal regulations and requirements, events and shows, as well as notifying them of deadlines for transfer of entitlements and milk quota. I personally have been trading quota for over 15 years and become one of the leading experts in the field of entitlement trading. Rostons are trading entitlements in England and Wales and have even set up a dedicated website on the topic. Following the introduction of new Waste Management Regulations in 2006 when burning or burying of farm waste and farm plastic was banned, FarmXS was set up to provide farmers and landowners with a sustainable recycling service for all types of farm plastic and cardboard. The scheme is run on a membership basis and helps the farming community deal with the recycling of farm plastic in an economic and organised fashion. FarmXS is a national scheme with collection centres around the UK. Collectors are managed on a regional basis through firms of agricultural valuers and chartered surveyors. My job as director of the business was to encourage farmers to join the scheme. The membership fee was based on the farm acreage and paid annually. The other main responsibility was negotiating the sale of plastics to recycling companies.

Carver Knowles was founded in 1997 in Worcestershire. Historically the office was the centre of the milk quota agency business as well as offering the full range of rural professional and agency services. This is where I gained experience as a Quota Trader matching buyers and sellers of milk quota. This role involved working with the relevant government agencies to ensure that milk quotas were transferred correctly. All the necessary paperwork had to be kept up to date and clients informed of the latest developments. My administration tasks included keeping clients informed of activities and changes in the milk quota market, regularly sending out email and fax mailshots.
