Wills, Trusts and Tax Planning - I advise on and draft wills including ones which incorporate discretionary trusts, life interest trusts, trusts for business property relief and charitable trusts. I also advise on and draft lifetime discretionary and death in service benefit trusts and Deeds of Variation. I have experience of advising clients in relation to the tax benefits and disadvantages of setting up trusts and also advise on other forms of tax planning, such as lifetime giving, and on the mitigation of capital gains tax and inheritance tax. Estate Administration - I deal with all aspects of the estate administration process including applying for the grant, dealing with inheritance tax issues and the tax affairs of the estate, distributing the assets and preparing estate accounts. I have dealt with high value estates, including one in excess of £2m. Court of Protection - I prepare applications to the Court of Protection for the appointment of both lay and professional deputies, for the execution of statutory wills and the making of statutory gifts. Contentious Probate - I have experience of dealing with disputes over the validity of wills. Charities - I assist charitable bodies in registering as charities at the Charity Commission and draft charitable trusts. Powers of Attorney and Nursing Fee Planning - Other work includes the preparation of Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA), applying to the Office of the Public Guardian for the registration of LPAs and advising on nursing fee planning and care issues. I am an active member of the networking group BNI Chester.
