Production Planning Manager
-
Aug 2018 - Sep 2019
My promotion came at a time when we were continuing to relocate processes to the manufacturing site in N. Wales, and the decision was taken to remove the current product from the market in order to focus on further R&D to fully automate the system and make other improvements. With a more formal ownership of the planning process I was the primary interface ensuring that custom formulation and build requirements were captured from Development staff still based in Harston, clearly communicated and understood by relevant production staff. The process involving our most critical piece of equipment, a unique high value custom dispenser, was one of the last to be transferred and required extremely careful planning and coordination of risk analysis, training and logistics for minimum disruption. Closing off the final actions of the project plan was highly satisfying.I also played a key role in defining requirements for future production equipment and for an upgrade of our MRP package to a fully integrated ERP system, visiting and evaluating potential suppliers. Unfortunately after making the selections, the story ended for Sphere before I could see these projects through to completion. Show less

Production Supervisor
-
May 2011 - Aug 2018
From an initial focus on coordinating small batches through production, this role grew with the product development journey. Key achievements included:*Building and leading small teams of multi-skilled technicians during development, scaling up to meet the requirements of Verification and Validation testing and the forecast for product launch. At peak times I coordinated two shifts for bottleneck processes and hourly rotas for more intensive operations.*Developing a training matrix, ensuring time was scheduled for cross-training to provide the flexibility to cover all processes as required.*Balancing the requirements for continuing development work and commercial lots vying for the same resources.*Managing and presenting data - summarizing key production metrics for management review at one end of the scale, and at the other developing a database that linked all available production data for individual devices, making it available to R&D.*Initial training of newly recruited technicians and QC staff following the acquisition of a second site for manufacturing. Production Operator
-
Jan 2009 - May 2011
I joined Sphere Medical at a critical point in the development of the innovative point-of-care device Proxima, then an IVD. As an operator I shaped the processes that would become standardised for our production activities and took a very active role in producing experimental devices for the development of our products.

During this time I significantly improved inventory control via the implementation of a custom database, introduced batching of components for greater traceability, and reduced in-process rejection rates by setting and performing incoming QC tests.I managed a database of product samples that I had shipped to potential customers worldwide and held responsibility for processing and presenting unit test data.

Since I have been old enough I have held temporary jobs outside of term time. This has included waste management, factory work and supermarket work. At the end of this period I took some time out to travel Europe with a school friend. Since I have been old enough I have held temporary jobs outside of term time.
