Rowan undertook his thesis and also worked as a demonstrator for a 4th year robotics course under my supervision. He had good technical knowledge of ROS, building examples for students and implementing a much more complex system for path planning for a UAV in concert with Emesent. His technical focus helped him make a complete solution, overcoming a lot of challenges along the way.

Over this internship I worked with the autonomy team at Emesent developing a simulated model of a 3 degree of freedom gimbal camera and light system with a working ROS api to be used in the gazebo 9 simulation suite. On top of this I developed a submission package for the DARPA Subt Sim challenge which involved the conversion of all plugins and models for use within ignition gazebo and conversion of the initial ROS systems to a ignition transport system. While contracted for work at New College I was incharge of maintaining sound, lighting and AV equipment used by the college for a series of events. These including setup and coordination of systems for the New College Lectures, play, revue and musicals as well as other functions which may be held within the premises. Over this internship I was working with the autonomy and DARPA team at Emesent. I was heavily involved in developing and prototyping a 3 degree of freedom gimbal camera system using a standardised dji top mounting bracket. I was also required to develop a series of software api for custom controlling of the gimbal system through ROS as well as an api for custom configuration of the FLIR Blackfly S camera. A summer Internship program run with UNSW which invloved stages of idea generation, idea pitching, prototyping and product pitching with two sets of seminars run by successful Entrepeneurs. My team developed a product known as the stubby cooler which used a packet insert into a stubby holder sleve resulting in a chemical reaction cooling warm drinks inside your hand.
