As an executive committee member of Adept, myself and the rest of the committee facilitate practical projects for student to supplement their theoretical knowledge gained through university. These students gain direct experience in their fields of choice and learn key project management skills that can only come with experience. As the secretary, my responsibilities are increasing the efficiency of processes in the club. On a regular basis this involves booking meetings, taking meeting minutes, and following up on actions. It also involves file management and introducing systems to standardise processes where possible so that information is maintained through successive committees and projects.

Project Helios Team Lead

As project lead for a team which entered into the inaugural Australian Universities Rocket Competition to design, build and launch a rocket to 30,000ft. In this competition the team placed 5th in the 30,000ft category. At the AURC, I received the DST Most Valuable Team Member award. The team lead position allows me to utilise project management skills of a 14 member team to facilitate communication between different subsystems, and to ensure deliverable are met. It also allows me to further develop and utilise my technical skills in rocketry. After completing the competition, the team has decided to continue with the project, with some redesigns to aspects of the rocket. As project lead, my team and I shall continue to pursue development in our rocketry skills and experience.

Warehouse Worker

This role requires me to be familiar with the operations of the warehouse and the product that is sold. This includes being able to use the system that tracks product in the company, so that the warehouse may operate smoothly as product is transferred. I undergo a variety of jobs including fulfilling orders for projects such as the Westconnex tunnels, receiving product into the warehouse from manufacturing, or fettling galvanized product. My familiarity with the functioning of the warehouse allows me to be flexible in my roles, where I must be able to work either individually, or as part of a team.

Adelaide Event Chair

Space Apps is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and everyone enthusiastic about curiosity come together to address challenges we face on Earth and in space. For the Adelaide event, a subcommittee of the AYAA (Australian Youth Aerospace Association) ran the event. As event chair, I ensured that the event was organised and ran smoothly. This involved coordinating acquiring sponsorship for the event, and dealing with involved parties to ensure the event was a success. A total of eight sponsors were secured for this event. Through hard work from the committee and myself, the event was successful and feedback was positive.

In this role I was responsible for purchasing for the maintenance department, this involved identifying what was required, and contacting the relevant suppliers to acquire it. I also wrote manuals for a variety of manufacturing dies, to assist in the servicing and repair of them. This increased my technical knowledge in manufacturing engineering, while also improving my documentation abilities. I also assisted the maintenance manager in any other required roles. A general committee position as part of the South Australian branch of the Australian Youth Aerospace association allowed me to become involved in the aerospace community. This ranged from being involved with the NASA Space Apps event, to being exposed to conferences such as aerospace futures, or volunteering at community events and assisting at AYAA events. Through the organisation process I had to work with a variety of venues and event sponsors while workings with the event logistics. The majority of my work during this period was cleaning the store and making sure everything was up to standard during the quieter periods. As part of the training for this job I undertook some barista training as to be able to serve coffee to customers. I also partook in customer support and any other tasks that were required of me. This utilized my communication skills through interactions in the workplace in relation to the business and the product. My role at Martin Blinds was a three week contract installing acoustic sound proofing in preparation for the Clipsal 500 race meeting. This exposed me to a construction site environment.
