Volunteer Engagement Specialist - AmeriCorps Position
-
Oct 2018 - Aug 2019
In my 1,700 hours of service, I served the 2,000+ volunteers, who build alongside Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity's partnering homeowners every year, to help increase the availability of affordable homes.During my time I have learned a great deal from the expert staff here and taken on the duties of what three AmeriCorps members had done in previous years. In January, I was awarded the "Nailed It Award" for going the extra mile.I have acted as volunteer appreciation party planner, film series and discussion planner and facilitator, t-shirt, pamphlet, and poster designer, VolunteerHub administrator, volunteer background checker, snack and lunch provider coordinator, gatherer of volunteer statistics and surveys, photographer, thank you letter writer, interviewer of future AmeriCorps and interns, website editor on WordPress, social media poster,Raiser's Edge updater (original and NXT)and weekly volunteer news email writer, but my favorite part was presenting for volunteer orientations and doing “Habi-chats,” where I got to inform people about our Habitat affiliate’s mission and accomplishments. My biggest project was planning, budgeting, and executing the four weeks of Collegiate Challenge groups, where I arranged the lodging, accommodations, goody bags, closing party, and food for the students who come from universities across the country to volunteer over their Spring Break.

Teaching voice and piano to students of all ages and varying genres allowed me to get creative in my lesson planning. I utilized music learning games to keep my younger students engaged.I also prepared my students for biannual recitals, taught group make-up classes for up to 12 students at a time, and constructed invoices for my services on Microsoft Excel. I learned a lot during this temporary tax season position, by communicating with clients and assisting the tax professionals with office duties. My duties included scheduling client appointments, calculating the end of day earnings, taking payments, copying, faxing, emailing, and calling previous clients to regain their business for the current year.
