To summarize the pleasure and privilege of having worked with Rose for 3 years in one paragraph is no easy task. Rose was the Academic Director at Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) while I was the faculty lead and an instructor for several courses. In her role as director, I admired Rose's ability to coordinate collaboration between people of different disciplinary backgrounds, her patient and professional approach to the various needs of students and her immaculate, super-precise way of handling administrative and managerial tasks. As colleague and collaborator, I appreciated Rose's hands-on approach to professional development (for faculty) and her emphasis on experiential learning as major pedagogical avenue (for students). Rose knows how to set boundaries, but within these boundaries she has a way of encouraging maximum academic autonomy and innovation. Her sense of humor, wit and sincere interest in her colleagues' well-being always turned the most mundane meeting into a pleasant, if not inspirational, experience. Finally, I just want to reiterate that if you want to get something DONE, on time, call Rose!
Lara Dunwell (she, her, hers)
Rose has worked under me for almost three years and I have come to really appreciate her both as a very competent colleague and a wonderful person of great integrity. She is a committed teacher and facilitator of learning, deeply aware of the complexities of navigating higher education learning environments in the very unequal South African context. Rose's years of experience as a researcher, educator, manager and facilitator within international education shows through her daily work with international students studying in Cape Town. She is always very professional and committed to delivering timely effective solutions to the daily challenges, while setting up strong, transparent systems for both shared and own tasks. It is a pleasure to work with Rose.
