PRRM is a development NGO in the Philippines that implemented pioneering work in Sustainable Rural Development Programs in the country. I started my almost 10-year career with them in Field Operations before transitioning to Human Resources. Fresh out of college with a degree in Economics, I was fortunate to be part of the team to pilot a comprehensive rural district development program that encompassed community health, micro-enterprise, environment, education, and self-governance, in five program areas and stand up their micro-credit and savings program to support social enterprise, following the Grameen Bank model. Later, my work evolved to include leadership of Disaster Relief, Rescue, and Rehabilitation Programs following two major disasters in the Philippines, before returning to Corporate to assume a post in HR.Day-to-day administration of all HR programs for one of the largest development NGOs in the Philippines working in the sustainable rural development field. Responsible for execution of all HR functions across eight field offices and the corporate office, to include recruitment and hiring, onboarding, training, compensation, benefits, and performance management. Developed career development program, revamped compensation plan, and human resource information systems. Advised management on policy and compliance. http://www.prrm.org/beginnings.html Show less

    • Area Manager, Mt. Pinatubo Relief, Resettlement, and Rehabilitation Project
      • Aug 1991 - Jun 1992

In June 1991, the eruption of a long dormant volcano in the Philippines, Mt. Pinatubo, sent pyroclastic flows down gulleys and rivers, burying entire villages and the countryside surrounding it. Many communities were dislocated, including an indigenous Aeta tribe. As Area Manager, I led the relief, resettlement, and rehabilitation program and the Pampanga field operations, which involved resettling the displaced Aeta tribe to a nearby mountain clearing, supervising the building of new shelters, bringing in food and medicines, as well as seeds and tools for planting crops, and livestock. In 1990, a big 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines, leaving 4 mountain villages in Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, facing food shortage due to massive landslides that buried the roads leading to their towns.
