This role was part of the Bradley Therapy Service in the Kent prison cluster for Oxleas NHS Trust. I have worked with a diverse range of clients I have developed strong interpersonal skills which have been highly effective in ensuring that people have a positive experience of the Mental Health services provided. I have further developed my clinical experience through facilitating psycho-educational group work which I have found to be extremely validating for the group members which has been very powerful. Working within a criminal justice setting has enabled me to appreciate the systemic complexities of such an environment, I have been able to adapt my working practice to work well in the organisation, this style of working allowed me to set up a new innovative group namely the ‘Hearing Voices group’ this is part of a wider national network which creates a safe space for clients to reflect and share their experiences of ‘hearing voices’, which clients found to be an extremely validating experience and they felt listened to within this group. I had the opportunity to work with clients on a one-to-one basis using a Dialectical behaviour Therapy skills I had acquired. I used this opportunity to develop in my ability to communicate sensitively which has enabled clear and effective communication with the clients I have worked with. Theoretically, my understanding of Attachment Theory has developed greatly and I am able to use my knowledge of this in my interactions with clients. Show less

At this position I assisted in the formulation of research questions, gathering and analysing data. The first project called PECAN was an evaluation of a mentoring scheme on female ex-offenders, this included interviewing the females in question using semi-structured interviews, about their experience of the PECAN intervention. The data was analysed and we formed a final report which was put forward in an attempt to gain more funding from the big national lottery fund. The second project was again a evaluation of an intervention of the MENCAP project which included taking a baseline measurement of a child's behaviour. Then once the intervention from MENCAP took place I again interviewed the children with their families to test whether the intervention had an effect on the child behaviour. This role included data collection, data analysis and writing up of the final reports. Show less
