  Caxton works to develop the communication and independence skills of young people with learning disabilities and ASD in order to promote inclusion, participation and effective citizenship. I am responsible for for the development, management and delivery of all youth programmes, partnerships and activities, as well as managing a team of 22 programme-staff, sessional workers and volunteers. A major part of my role is to ensure the youth voice is at the heart of decision-making and that we are always using person-centered planning and effective youth consultation techniques. In addition I deliver our newly-commissioned Employment Support and Independent Skills Programme for young people with learning disabilities and a young women's community group. Show less

  Caxton Youth organisation is an evening and after school organisation for the learning disabled. I am developing a programme of work that inspires skills for independence. So far this has included projects on transportation & accessibility, disability rights, money management, young enterprise, skills for life, developing personal skills and personal safety. On a daily basis I manage volunteer recruitment, coordinate youth activities, the holiday programme and the Jack Petchey award, as well as uphold child safeguarding. I have recently been piloting a young women's learning disability advocacy group. My aim is to boost networking with other local Westminster organisations and increase opportunities for inclusion. Recently I have facilitated an eight-week spoken word and song writing workshop with a group of 11-13 year olds with the charity cen-8. I have also carried out a 2-hour session at UCL for aspiring writers. As part of my role at goldsmiths I have designed a mini-anthropology lecture and plan to take this to primary schools in the near future. I am a member of the poetry collective Kid Glove. We are resident poets at the Roundhouse. Currently we meet weekly, facilitating our own sessions in preparation for our scratch show in May. Show less
