I worked with Rosa to offer trauma-informed interviewing trainings for advocates at the Unemployment Action Center and Suspension Representation Project, student groups at the New York University School of Law. Rosa created and led the trainings and I couldn't recommend her more. Her trainings are reflective and meaningful. She communicates complicated scientific ideas effectively and in a way that emphasizes the impact of past trauma on someone today. Rosa is excellent at conveying how individual and racialized trauma impacts people and impacts student/client interactions. Building on this, she provides clear and approachable strategies for working in this space. Rosa cares deeply about tailoring her trainings to the people she is working with, which makes the trainings even more impactful. In working with her to coordinate trainings, she was diligent, organized, and caring in all of her communication. I had a great experience working with Rosa!

I was fortunate enough to have Rosa as my professor for the Pinkerton Fellowship Initiative course at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. Rosa supported our cohort of seven Pinkerton Graduate Fellows and provided a comprehensive course focused on youth justice in addition to our field placements. She used her position as our professor to foster a supportive environment where we were able to grow not only as students, but also as advocates and professionals. Rosa was more than just my professor, she continues to be a mentor. Rosa taught us the benefit of learning the history of the justice system in addition to current best practices and policies, so we would be well-informed during our field work. Each one of her lessons echoed the importance of working from an anti-oppressive lens in the midst of an already oppressive system. She never turned away an opportunity to offer support or to lend an ear to a difficult situation. She encouraged discussions when there were disagreements, and challenged our class to think bigger than where we are right now, both professionally and systemically. She has made a profound impact on the way I personally choose to practice in my work, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from her.
