Undergraduate Research Thesis- Pyrometallurgy

During my final year of study, I elected to undergo a thesis in the field of pyrometallurgy, as my previous work experience in the area sparked my interest. The thesis topic was 'The Gaseous Reduction of Iron-Ore Sinter Product' and involved the investigation into the reduction of Silico-Ferrites of Calcium under various smelting conditions that would be seen in an industrial blast furnace.

President

During my final year of study, I was elected as the active President of the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Student Society (ChESS) following my success as Social Officer for the society during the previous year. The role of president within the society presented a number of challenges and a substantial workload and a great deal of responsibility. As president, it was my job to oversee all aspects of the running of the society and provide help and guidance to the entering executive team based on my previous experience as Social Officer. After a year of hard work, we were able to increase our membership to a greater level than any previous year, and for the second year running we were the largest engineering society despite being one of the smallest cohorts. We were once again awarded for our efforts with numerous nominations and awards at the UQ Clubs and Societies Awards Evening.In addition to my work within the university, the position also entitled me to a seat on the Joint Chemical Engineering Community (JCEC) of Queensland, as the University of Queensland student ambassador, the community was comprised of professional engineers and aimed to provide learning and development opportunities for members of the Institute of Chemical Engineering (IChemE) and Engineers Australia.
