I shadowed social workers, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare providers in a Community Health Centre. I completed intake appointments with new social work clients seeking ongoing counselling. I planned a DBT skills group for adults who struggle with emotion dysregulation (cancelled due to CoVid). I adapted the group to be fully accessible for clients with spinal cord disabilities. I researched psychometric measures to assess client outcomes pre & post. I conducted all pre-group interviews with 12 diverse participants. During CoVid-19, I completed independent research projects on Trauma-Focused CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, and Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM). I created several resources and brochures for waiting area including “depression”, “anxiety”, “crisis survival skills”, “social skills”, “identify your emotions”, “legal aid”, and “guide to long-term care / retirement homes”. I co-facilitated three 12-week Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills groups for eight youth aged 14-18 who struggle with emotion dysregulation and borderline personality disorder traits. I co-developed the curriculum including activities, stories, learning guides, and teaching strategies. As facilitator, I managed group difficulties incl. emotion dysregulation, lack of participation, lack of engagement, invalidation of peers, etc. I independently developed and implemented Skylark’s youth outreach strategy “Build Relationships & Eliminate Barriers.” I connected with hundreds of community partners, administrative staff, teachers, parents, and youth. I spoke to staff and students at multiple schools to decrease stigma and increase awareness of mental health, LGBTQ+ issues, and services available. I spoke at six assemblies of 500-700 students each. I created Skylark’s slogan, “Everyone has mental health. We make it easy to talk about.” I formed the joint outreach committee to make outreach efforts more efficient and diverse. These activities have been directly responsible for 24% of our new walk-in clients since the program was implemented. I developed Skylark’s data strategy for more useful tracking, analysis, and reporting. My data was shown to funders, and used to support more efficient staff scheduling and improved social media messaging. I chaired a bi-weekly clinical consultation meeting with psychiatrists, nurses, and counsellors. I co-chaired the joint health & safety committee. As admin assistant to the counselling team, I welcomed all clients and families at the front desk, making everyone feel comfortable accessing mental health resources, often for the very first time. I coordinated the nurse practitioner & psychiatry program. I conducted case management tasks such as checking in with clients, booking appointments, following up, and responding to client requests. I ran a weekly music program at a long-term residence for clients with complex mental illnesses. Clients were first encouraged to adopt a growth mindset towards all music skills. I worked with my team to build a youth mentorship program that pairs youth (aged 12-25) with adults (aged 18+). We started from scratch, researching best practices, discussing with industry leaders, brainstorming, and evaluating to create all the templates, guidelines, policies, procedures, training materials, evaluation tools, and databases necessary to run this program. The Youth Mentorship Program began receiving annual funding in April 2017.
