While we were living on Curaçao, my wife and I had the pleasure of doing our Advanced Open Water diving course with Ron. Right from the start Ron managed to organize our group of five well by being supportive and demonstrating good time management on the surface while observing everything that happened. Underwater he was very patient and was easily able to build trust by anticipating everyone’s needs, communicating in a relaxed manner and being very safety cautious. Because of his pleasant way of teaching and his way of motivating people I happily recommend everyone to take their next diving course with Ron!

During his time on Curaçao, Ron has worked for SaniSale for almost a year. He started out as marketing manager, where he proved to have an incredible desire to learn and improve and the welcome abilities to delegate tasks, solve problems and empower others. After roughly six months Ron had become my right hand and gladly took on the role as general manager of the business. He turned out to be very open-minded and self-motivated and he was great at explaining things to others and increasing the overall efficiency of the team. I would gladly work with Ron again and heartily recommend him to anyone.

After having worked in the industry for several years my wife Denise and I decided it was time to give our own spin on things and start our own business: Diving Adelaide, Adelaide's premier PADI 5* dive centre. Diving Adelaide is an official dealer of Scubapro, Hollis, TUSA, Shearwater, Oceanic, Rob Allen, Salvimar, Atomic Aquatics, Fourth Element, Halcyon, Probe, Light Monkey, DiveR and many other brands. Besides scuba equipment sales, our dive centre specialises in: * PADI dive courses * Scuba equipment servicing * Scuba equipment rental * Dive travel By keeping our overheads relatively low, we are able to offer our customers best value on equipment, courses, servicing and all other diving related activities.

When we opened the doors of our bricks and mortar store (Diving Adelaide), we also opened our virtual doors of Australia's easiest to use online dive gear store with the best prices. Through OnlineDiveGear.com.au we are broadening our horizon from Adelaide to the whole Australian continent, which gives us a better opportunity to be competitive in the global scuba diving market. Our aim is to provide divers with internationally competitive pricing to keep the Australian dollar in Australia. By having a low cost structure with lower overheads than our competition and by using the South Australian infrastructure to its full potential, we beat our overseas competition with great pricing and the promise that our gear comes with full Australian warranties and return policies!

Since being certified as a PADI Scuba Diving and EFR Instructor (at Go West Diving on the island of Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean) in June 2012, I can and have been teaching the following diving courses (freelance between June 2012 and September 2012, full time at Pro Dive Coogee in Sydney between October 2012 and July 2013 and at Diving Adelaide from October 2013 onwards): * PADI Discover Scuba Diving * PADI Open Water Diver Course * PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course * PADI Rescue Diver Course * PADI Divemaster Course * PADI Specialty Courses: Project Aware Specialist, Project Aware Coral Reef Conservation, Deep Diver, Digital Underwater Photography, Drift Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox (up to 40%), Fish I.D., Night Diver and Peak Performance Buoyancy. Besides that I can teach the following EFR Courses: * CPR courses for adults, infants and children * First Aid for adults, infants and children * Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training As one of the foremost international CPR and first aid training companies, Emergency First Response gives indivduals the confidence to respond to medical emergencies, not just in the diving world, but in the every day world with family, friends, neighbors and coworkers! Besides teaching these courses I can lead and guide certified divers (to depths of 50 metres, if tech certified).

Since 2010 I have been certified as a Scuba Schools International (SSI) Dive Control Specialist. During my time as marketing coordinator and manager at The Dive Shack, during travels (in Australia and Thailand) and in the last 5 years in Curaçao, Sydney and Adelaide, I have led many dives and have assisted on a very diverse range of scuba diving courses. Since I succesfully completed four SSI TechXR courses in 2011, I can guide (certified technical) divers on decompression dives to a maximum depth of 50 meters. In November 2012, I did a crossover from PADI to SSI to be able to teach both PADI and SSI courses as this was a requirement of the dive centre I was working for at that time (Pro Dive Coogee). In the year I worked for Pro Dive I taught a diverse range of courses and over 100 open water students via the SSI programs. I am an SSI Divemaster Instructor (SSI DMI), which means I can teach all levels up to and including divemaster, and am an SSI Gold Instructor (500+ experience points).

After living in Adelaide (Australia) for a year and a half, we explored the continent for two months and then emigrated to the island of Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean. In October 2011 I was offered a job as marketing manager at one of the largest online retailers of design bathroom furniture of the Benelux (Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg) based on the island. As marketing manager my responsibilities were to develop all marketing communication activities of all six online stores of the SaniSale group – SaniSale (NL & BE), SaniExpert (NL & BE), SaniStuner and TegelSale. My main responsibility was to increase revenue from the web for all stores, by: * Developing strategy, metrics, processes and campaigns * Increasing online reach and influence via search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine advertising (SEA) * Increasing online engagement by implementing effective social media strategies Furthermore, I was responsible for managing the creative and content writing divisions and coaching all interns. After working for Sanisale for roughly 6 months I took on the role as general manager of the business. This meant I was now also responsible for: * HR Management: Recruitment, hiring/terminations, policy development and performance management. * Financial Management: Supervise the administrative/financial division in preparing (annual) reports, provide vision in short- and long term financial planning and provide recommendations regarding overall financial health. * Marketing Management: Supervise the SEO division and all content writing activities, increase online engagement and keeping abreast of new opportunities and technologies. * R&D Management: Supervising continuing market research and benchmarking for national and international (niche) markets and developing new business plans. Furthermore, as part of the management team, I was responsible for managing all day-to-day operational aspects, as well as content management of all six online stores.

    • General Manager
      • Feb 2010 - Aug 2011

Before I became general manager of the business in August 2010, I worked for The Dive Shack in a marketing coordinator's position for six months, which meant I had to plan, direct and implement the organization's marketing communications activities. In this position I was responsible for: * Communicating consistent messages across print and electronic (social) media. * Ensuring that key, strategic messages were communicated effectively to target audiences. * Assisting in the production of advertising, marketing brochures and other promotional material. After six months as marketing manager I was offered the position of general manager of the business. From a manager's perspective it was a very interesting company to run, because of the many different services we offered and the different levels of hierarchy (organization leadership and dive leadership levels). As general manager, my tasks were mainly to provide leadership, direction, and hands on involvement in daily responsibilities or in other words, to plan/execute daily activities to ensure internal/external demands were met. This meant I had to ensure that course, tour and product quality standards were met at all times. My main responsibilites were to: * Manage day-to-day operational aspects. * Schedule, plan and manage courses, tours and projects and set direction for areas of responsibility. * Manage sales and orders. * Recommend hiring and terminations. * Assists in development and monitoring of budgets. * Ensure that all employees are knowledgeable of, and comply with, all work policies. * Create strategies for stock planning and risk mitigation. * Plan, direct and implement the organization's marketing communications activities. Other activities involved with my position were customer service, suggest areas for improvement and manage client expectations.
