Ronan was a very versatile member of the Serious Parody team. He is one of those rare artists who has the code skills required to help speed up tasks and optimise pipelines. If there’s ever a chance to speed up a task with a bit of code Ronan would happily give it a go, he was often found writing Unity tools to streamline procedures. Ronan would be a valuable asset to any team and I hope I have the opportunity to work with him again in the future.

Ronan joined Firebrand Games as an Artist Intern for 3 months in 2013, joining a small, new ideas incubation team. Initially taken on as the Artist in this team, Ronan quickly showed he had also had skills in programming for Unity and when our SW intern left he took over this role entirely. Ronan is one of a rare breed of multi-skilled game developers. He has talent and skills in all areas of development- programming, art and design and is someone who loves making and knows how to make games. I was very impressed by his dedication, understanding and maturity throughout his time at Firebrand- he was the perfect person for the type of rapid prototyping we were looking to do in the interns team. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ronan for any role in game development and had regrets we were unable to offer him a FT role when the internship ended.

Hired as an artist I quickly realised the need for a bridge between art and code so fulfilled the role of Technical Artist without the title as well as my art responsibilities. With only two artists in the team (and later just myself) creating a wrestling PS3 - PS4 game I had to be very versatile and take on any art task that needed done, including environments, characters, UI, lighting and promotional content.Fulfilling the need for a Technical Artist I also discussed technical problems and potential solutions with the code team and management, thought of solutions and in many cases implemented them.I created a number of art and general workflow tools to enhance project efficiency and remove human error when doing complex or repetitive tasks, including batch scripts for converting thousands of animations. Additionally in a few circumstances helped out the overburdened code team, spearheading requested experimental features that made it into the game.

I am part of a 2 man team (myself and a designer) rapidly coming up with and prototyping game ideas and mechanics. The prototypes are made in Unity with C#. I am responsible for building the prototypes, making sure they run on devices as well as creating art and contributing to design decisions. I am currently modelling, rigging, skinning and animating the main character and animating the background props. Job also includes being the link between artists and coders. I help students time manage their projects, come up with interesting and achievable ideas, and fix bugs/problems creatively without compromising the design. Projects are primarily Flash based but can also include Maya, Flex, Unreal UDK and XNA.
