I have known Ron Jubin for 8 years, since he joined my company PBL InterferonSource. Over the years Ron has demonstrated, time and time again, a passion for new ideas and opportunities to advance science and develop products that serve critical unmet needs in the marketplace. Although he began at PBL as R&D Manager, he was soon promoted to the position of Director of Research & Development. For much of his time at PBL he reported directly to me. Ron‘s knowledge of the latest technical and scientific discoveries is impressive, and he is adept at developing functional applications from principles of basic research. His depth of knowledge and his scientific perspective have been great assets to the company. With all the promising work he could have pursued, Ron kept his group focused on only the most important projects with the greatest chances of success. He has the ability to establish and work toward key go/no-go decision points, as well as the ability to establish industry and academic partnerships that strengthen the projects he undertakes. Ron has always been regarded by his group as a strong team leader. He has a knack for recognizing his scientists’ strengths and applying those strengths in ways that are most beneficial to the organization. Ron has been a strong mentor to the scientists who have reported to him, teaching them how to think about their work and counseling them in relation to their career paths. The universal feedback from his direct reports is that he communicates in a way that is highly motivating, and that he makes the work interesting and exciting. In addition to having garnered my personal respect, his staff has always held Ron in the highest regard. Ron also possesses the ability to promote his ideas with great energy and conviction. His presentation skills are impressive, as is his ability to generate excitement about the company’s products or technologies or discoveries—a skill that is often difficult to find in a scientist of his caliber. He can take complicated topics, presenting them in easily understandable ways and generating a buzz of excitement and interest from both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Ron has made significant accomplishments in his time at PBL. In particular, he developed a novel gene signature test to optimize disease diagnosis and drug development—a test that we believe will be extremely useful in light of the strategic shift toward inflammation research. Ron has a great understanding of drug discovery and of the life sciences in general, and he is a strong team leader with the ability to motivate others and bring excitement—and exciting science—to an organization. I can highly recommend Ron Jubin to individuals interested in ferretting out new development opportunities and establishing valuable industry partnerships.

I am honored to write in support of Dr. Ron Jubin. He is one of those scientists that you are lucky to meet once in your lifetime. Ron was a member of the Antiviral Therapy group at the Schering Plough Research Institute (SPRI). When I arrived at SPRI in 1995, Ron was a Scientist I working on novel targets for the development of anti HCV drugs. Among the many qualities that Ron exemplifies is his ambition to excel and reach new heights. I was overwhelmed by his decision to pursue a Ph.D. at the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey while attending to his responsibilities of a full time job at SPRI. That is a great accomplishment that few can boast about in this ever challenging world. I was honored to serve on his Doctoral Advisory Committee and he made me very proud. He successfully completed his Ph.D. defense and included several publications and a patent in addition to his thesis studies. When I arrived at SPRI and had the opportunity to get to know members of our group I was struck by Ron’s independent thinking. Even though he was an associate he was operating at the level of a doctor or even beyond. He was on top of the literature and what differentiated him from others was his ability to come up with new ideas that were ahead of the times. After receiving his doctorate he pursued a new career at PBL InterferonSource. I can see very clearly from the endorsements of his colleagues at PBL InterferonSource that Ron continued to excel in his profession. I fully endorse Ron and I strongly believe that he will be a great asset for any company that employs him. Bahige Baroudy, Ph.D., CSO, GPCR BioSciences Inc.
