Following the success of the amalgamation vote I was asked to become the spokesperson for Wairarapa Voice. WV’s purpose is to improve local government in Wairarapa. I prepared and submitted detailed analyses to all three district councils’ long term planning process as well as the regional council’s rating and financing policy proposal which was deferred until more work could be done to justify it. January 2017 to date I am an independent member of this group invited to participate by the group chair, Councillor Greg Lang. As part of this involvement I’m doing some pro-bono work on applications to the Provincial Growth Fund as well as exploring the set-up of Venture Wairarapa. I was asked by Carterton’s Mayor, John Booth to work with Councillor Greg Lang (Toi Chairman) to ensure the survival of Toi Wairarapa as it transitioned from a council policy unit to a community arts hub. With the backing of the Carterton council and art community Heart of Arts is now a viable, stand-alone community trust. LionsFIT Implementation Lead Lions Clubs New Zealand

I provided Lions Clubs New Zealand national organisation with action consulting on addressing Lions’ issues in attracting and retaining members and volunteers. This involved reviewing the US originated LCI Forward programme, reaching out to world experts, particularly in The Netherlands, researching the application to local conditions, in particular the idea of Episodic Volunteering, and communicating the approach via seminar style presentations. Drafted and submitted the Community Led Development Programme application to the Dept. of Internal Affairs. I facilitated the SBS governance board meeting in October 2016 to help them overcome some relationship issues. The result was that two members of the governance board took over the running of the trust in NZ, straightened out the relationship with the Ugandan end of the operations and moved forward.
