I am a Senior County Football Referee for Middlesex FA and I officiate on a weekly basis within the county. As a football referee, I am responsible for the safety of players on the pitch, as well as ensuring that the Laws of the Game are abided by. I am also responsible for completing administration work after a game, particularly when there is misconduct to report. Being a referee has made me much more confident and has enabled me to build my communication and leadership skills. Bright Network Techology and Investment Banking & Asset Management Internships

I was fortunate enough to undertake two short internship placements with Bright Network in their Technology stream and their Investment Banking and Asset Management stream. The programmes both covered sessions on soft skills from negotiation, to leadership, to collaboration, and gave a real insight into the working life of software developers, technology consultants, investment bankers, asset managers, and wealth managers. Furthermore, both streams allowed me to undertake a realistic work sample project where I was able to learn more about the work undertaken in various roles. I completed an asset management work sample with Macquarie where I was tasked with comparing different investment opportunities to select the most suitable one as well as comparing metrics of different companies such as their EV/EBITDA ratios to value a mock company. In the technology stream I completed a case study in advising a mock company on emerging technologies to use in a technology consulting task proposed by Ernst and Young. I also attempted a software development task set by Google where I was tasked with Python programming the ‘behind the scenes’ of YouTube. I found all of these work samples hugely beneficial and found that I gained huge enjoyment from all of them. This experience would help me to make an informed career choice and for me confirms that I would enjoy careers in either technology or in finance. Show less
