I managed Roemer both directly and indirectly (as his skip) during his time at Plaid. Roemer was an excellent thought partner and a strong senior IC voice on the team. In addition to scoping or de-risking some of our largest, most complex projects, Roemer drove a lot of indirect impact through his work as our business unit's "Area Tech Lead". In this capacity, he mentored junior and mid-level engineers on the team, pushed for the creation of a technical strategy, and ensured that our systems were able to meet the growing needs of the business. Roemer's consistent presence in specs and PR reviews caught a number of design flaws and issues, and his gentle pressure helped the team to produce better designs and increased our technical quality. Roemer also provided clear, thoughtful feedback to numerous people on the team, both within engineering and among our cross-functional partners. Roemer is a strong Staff engineer and I would expect him to level up any engineering organization of which he is a member.
