My most significant contribution to NL Hydro was in assessing and implementing a cost-effective system for storing and accessing protective equipment settings. Many leading industry solutions for this are extremely expensive, and sometimes difficult to learn and manage. The solution I implemented is easily scaled, works well with their existing emergency back-ups, and had available UI options that would make its use seamless to the user when set up using the documentation that I also provided. NL Hydro was a great place to work, and their management was an absolute pleasure to work with and get to know. If not for a long-term plan of mine to relocate outside of their operating region, I would have absolutely sought a permanent position with them after I graduated from the Engineering program. At NF Power I simulated N-1 scenarios across many sections of NL's electrical grid using multiple versions of CYME Power Engineering. The results of each version were compared to ensure consistency between versions in case there were any scenarios that required fresh eyes as the company transitioned into the more modern software. I created the transition documentation to help users get acquainted with the new software. At the end of my term there, I prepared a presentation recommending some changes relating to substation migration and consolidation on the west coast of the island. Many of my arguments were based on risk mitigation and comparing the net present worth analysis between the available options. Show less

While working for CIMA+ I took up and expanded upon my previous duties of a project engineer at IOC. CIMA+ was great to work for and has an excellent work culture. I was glad to be able to work with the same team at IOC, and experience the role and work from a contracted perspective. The position opened me up to more opportunities and I hold both CIMA+ and IOC in high regard. While working for CIMA+ I took up and expanded upon my previous duties of a project engineer at IOC. While working for Rio Tinto - IOC I developed multiple excel files to assist planners and project managers with managing and tracking their projects and documentation. Visual Basic programming was heavily used in these files in order to minimise work required of the user. I also acted as liaison between IOC and visiting consultants and potential technology providers, arranging accommodations, assisting with meeting/demo setup, and participating in post-demo discussion and analysis of options presented. I learned a great deal about project management, visual basic, and electrical transmission/distribution/protection on a large scale, as well as to how those principles apply to much smaller circuits. Working at Rio Tinto - IOC was an absolute pleasure and I highly recommend the company. Show less

Started out doing small handy-man jobs around head office and single-person demo work in isolated yards, from there I constructed a digital photo-dossier of the company truck fleet, creating a database of plate numbers, VIN, Unit #, attached pictures of vehicle conditions etc. Before I left the company I was assisting with transporting refurbished tools throughout the Syncrude site north of Fort McMurray.
