The Ministry of Education and Culture As this summer comes to a close, I reflect on the riches it has provided me: I spent this summer's time divided between Greece and Paris, France. I've also re-kindled the fire of German and my ancestry. My North Germanic, Danish, Swiss, and French heritage and DNA combined with Spanish and Basque are burgeoning. After teaching Greek at Harrisburg Area Community College, I was fully able to appreciate the warmth and spirit of the Greek people, and yearned to immerse myself in their rich history and culture; and so, after a year of intensive review and study of Greek language and culture, this past summer Part One of that dream came to fruition. I was able to successfully speak Greek with dozens of people and make new connections in Greece. Most Greeks asked me if I had a Greek parent or relatives. This immersion experience was so enjoyable and productive that I'm already planning Trip Two, and have a timeline for taking the Proficiency Exam that will lead to Greek Certification. This summer I also had the pleasure of visiting Paris, France, and of speaking French with citizens, my siblings of DNA and upbringing, and residents of the cultural capital of civilization. As Parisians received me graciously, I was reminded of the importance of French in Diplomacy, International Relations, Commerce, Art, and in all that we call civilization and reason. I am proud of my French heritage and history, and am pleased to share my language and culture with my students and community. I will forever treasure memories of Paris and its citizens. It is an honor and pleasure for me to share my North Germanic and Swiss Germanic heritage and German Language again with students and the community.
